Our Story

Raising quality Angus bulls

since 1967.

Whispering Pines Angus is a third generation bull stud with the primary goal of improving the qualities of the breed to suit southern WA's unique growing conditions and markets.

Located in Yoongarillup, close to Busselton, the stud was founded in 1967 by Neville Trigwell, a respected stockman with a keen eye for cattle and beef animals in particular. The stud was created with the introduction of trans-Tasman genetics to offer unique bloodlines on which to build a solid female herd.

Neville used a traditional approach to cattle selection, focusing on desirable morphology, correct structure and optimising fertility in his breeding program. He also pioneered non-surgical embryo transfers in the South West farming district, which is now commonplace in artificial breeding programs.

Today, two generations later, Clayton has remained loyal to Neville's core breeding philosophies. The stud's breeding philosophy is to raise and prepare stock for sale on a 100% forage-based diet, without grain or other dietary supplements, to improve performance in real-world conditions.

Our Farm

On-farm experience reflects the relevant literature that a purely forage-based diet promotes optimal fertility, structural soundness, consistency of body condition and a prolonged service life.

"As with the purchase of modern day machinery, bulls represent a significant investment to breeders and breakdowns, sub-optimal performance and a short service life can be costly," Clayton said.

Whispering Pines Angus is committed to an open gate policy as a transparent operation and welcomes animal inspections at all times throughout the year as well as detailed semen test results.

The stud has achieved a J-BAS 8 rating with an implemented vet-checked bio-security plan. All advertised bulls are free of Pestivirus, fully vaccinated and semen tested.
